Mythology on the Origin of Tea

There are plenty of great myths about the origin of tea and about the many different aspects of tea culture. One of the most famous is about how the tea plant was first discovered.

Shen Nung was believed to be a man with great agricultural and herbal knowledge. One day while he was napping in the forest, a few leaves from a nearby plant blew into his pot of boiling water. When he awoke, he drank the mixture and found it to be invigorating and tasty, so he made it his goal to share this plant (the tea plant, camelia sinensis) with everyone he could by teaching them how to grow the plant in their gardens.
